A study of narrative is dependant on an understanding of close reading techniques. Understanding of narrative is helpful across a range of achievement standards.
Narrative explores the way in media can tell a story in different ways, it is also strongly linked to the audience and the purpose of the text. The conventions that are used depend on the medium, as in film, timing would be important, as in magazines the article is of importance and the layout.
The narrative is also very personal, as to each person it can be interpreted differently.
For example in this picture, what do you think the story is? It would depend on the individuals culture background as well. The colour of it, as it is black and white adds age to it and also a different story. The body language, size, uniform will also show a difference and facial expression.
As well as this there are also many codes which we are expect. as in many famous triligie of films and Tv shows, we know certain things that act on a cue. In C.S.I Miami, The main character puts on his glasses, showing that the show is now beginning, we all know this before it actually happens, because it is a certian narrative that does not chance throughout.Other codes such as the enigma, symbol/ signs and cultural references are all used throughout media narratives.
